 Current Openings

  • The Street Team will be tasked with increasing harm reduction resources and training in neighborhoods that have been most affected by overdose crisis, particularly North and Southwest Philadelphia. The people filling these positions will work in the field five days per week in zip codes 19121, 19132, 19141, 19144, 19140, 19139 and 19133 (subject to changed based on data) to distribute harm reduction resources and educational materials about the overdose crisis in the city.  Street Team staff will interact directly with people in active addiction, people who use substances recreationally, people who are unhoused, as well as people who may have a stigmatizing view of substance use. The Street Team Specialist is a core member of the Community Engagement Program within the Division of Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health and will be expected to work collaboratively within and across programs.  People from the zip codes of focus, as well as people with lived experience and/or returning citizens are highly encouraged to apply.

  • The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH)’s Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction Division is hiring a Community Remediation Specialist to support the efforts to maintain clean, safe and healthy spaces while advancing harm reduction and public health goals. This position combines environmental cleanup with compassionate outreach to individuals who use drugs and/or are unhoused, promoting dignity, safety and wellness across communities in Philadelphia most impacted by substance use and environmental hazards.

  • The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH)’s Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction Division is hiring a CRS Field Navigator who will provide support to the Division’s effort to foster resilience in neighborhoods most affected by substance use. The individual filling this position will be responsible for supporting Project Reach’s Block 2 Block (B2B) initiative, which is designed to provide low barrier employment for community residents affected by economic inequalities. This individual will also be responsible for engaging community members with ongoing concerns in their communities and supporting B2B participants with access to resources, such as substance use treatment, vocational opportunities, and social services. The CRS Field Navigator will report to the Divisions Project Reach Coordinator and Environmental Services Manager and work very closely with staff within PDPH’s SUPHR Division, The Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disability Services, and the Opioid Response Unit in the Office of Public Safety.

  • The Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH)’s Substance Use program is hiring a Harm Reduction Specialist who will provide essential support for all of the program’s harm reduction activities. The individual filling this position will continue harm reduction activities currently in place as well as proactively seek out new opportunities for outreach. Emphasis will be placed on community education and distribution of Naloxone and test strips as well as activities relating to safe syringe disposal, drug-related litter clean-up, and coordinating community outreach activities during overdose surges. The Harm Reduction Specialist will also support qualitative research efforts, assisting with interviews, focus groups, and data collection as needed. The Harm Reduction Specialist will report to the Harm Reduction Coordinator and work very closely with interdepartmental staff within PDPH SUPHR, The Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services, the Fire Department’s Emergency Medical Services, the Police Department, the Medical Examiner’s Office and health care providers associated with all major Philadelphia area hospital emergency departments. This position may also support public health emergency response, including outreach and harm reduction activities during Code Reds and Code Blues.and the Opioid Response Unit in the Office of Public Safety.

  • The Bereavement Care Provider is responsible for providing emotional support to both children and adolescents as well as adults that have been affected by substance use in the family, especially related to overdose loss. This position will be based out of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health’s Division of Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction (SUPHR)’s Bereavement Care Team but will also be expected to collaborate with other teams in the division such as Harm Reduction, Community Outreach, and Philly LIFTs (Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Intervention). The Bereavement Care Provider will provide telephonic and in-person crisis intervention, grief counseling, and other support as needed primarily to individuals affected by drug-related deaths. This position requires a high level of clinical responsibility, integrity, and initiative.

  • This position will serve as the family care navigator for the Division of Substance Use Prevention and Harm Reduction’s (SUPHR) Philly LIFTS (Linking Infants and Families to Service) program. Philly LIFTs is an outreach program for the families of infants diagnosed with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), along with families affected by substance use disorder at all stages. Philly LIFTS is part of SUPHR’s NAS Program, which conducts surveillance of NAS diagnoses in Philadelphia. The primary goal of the program is to support the families of infants diagnosed with NAS, along with families affected by substance use disorder. The program aims to “lift” parents and their children to support and services. This support includes, but is not limited to food referrals, baby supplies like diapers and car seats, clothing, employment assistance, referral to home visiting programs and doula support, recovery support, short-term therapy sessions for children 5-21 years old, mental health support for postpartum parents, and overdose prevention training. Philly LIFTs hosts community outreach events and celebrations throughout the year. These events are open to all families, not only those enrolled in the program.

    The Family Care Navigator will work in-tandem with the Senior Family Care Navigator to connect families impacted by substance use to needed clinical and social services. This individual will be responsible for supporting the continuity of care for families served by the program and will be situated within the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
